Designing With History

After a lot of time we realized the nixie tube of type No. 16 was suitable for the watch, and it is as it was at the time of historical manufacture. The Nixie tube has not been produced for more than 30 years, and it is more difficult to find ones that can glow right, show the time and be in well preserved condition every year.

The team spent a long time finding the gas sealed tubes "IN-16" in the warehouse of a military factory.

I don't know how many in-16 nixie tubes are left all over the world, but it's very valuable and worth having in your collection. You get to own a piece of history that you can wear!

The control algorithm of wrist detection is built so that when the gyro sensor detects that the arm has risen, the figures automatically flash, and the time and minute are displayed alternately.

A bit about nixie tubes

About 70 years ago, an indicator tube was able to display numbers and symbols. A metal mesh electrode and a 10 to 9 electrode were installed in a gas filled tube and with a neon gas containing mercury or argon. When you turned on the voltage, each electrode illuminates and displays the numbers.

This was the first invention of the human race to display numbers on the tube. In a time when humans were advancing rapidly the nixie tube was born in a discovery of science and technology, and began to glow through time with a beautiful light.

Then LED technology became prosperous, and nixie tubes were no longer produced, but the warm orange light wasn't forgotten.

Design Elements

In order to fit two nixie tubes to the watch, the parts must be made small. After several years of research, the team adopted smart chip control and successfully minimized the number of parts and the size of electrical circuits.

Weight

This piece of tech is 50g and you can just feel the weight. It is light weight and won't weigh down your wrist, so it is comfortable to wear all day and all night all while looking amazing.

The Charge

The nixie tube operates at a voltage of 170 v. The development team adopted a high-performance low power processor to maintain high performance and suppress power consumption. As a result, it is possible to eliminate the fault current resistance and to identify whether the nixie tube is lit or not. This saves power and lets it stay charged longer. It runs for aproximately 3 days with normal use.

Scratch Resistant and Shatterproof

This watch is built with sapphire crystal and a sapphire case back which is extremely strong and resists scratches.

Sapphire is one of the hardest substances on earth which measures 9 on the Mohs scale, while diamond measures 10, the highest rating. The watch is virtually scratch-proof because it is such a hard material. It also helps prevent fingerprints, keeping great clarity all day long.

How it works:

Time Display: By raising your wrist or pressing any button you display the time. The Hour and Minute will be alternately displayed for twice, for 1.25 seconds each. When the blue LED is off, it shows Hour; when it's on, it shows the Minutes.

Stopwatch Mode: Double press the down button to enter the Stopwatch Mode. The numbers of the 2 Nixie tubes will cycle through. Press the down button to start timing. Press to stop. Press again to clear. Press it twice to return the the previous interface.

You don't need to take out your smartphone to count time any more!

Turn off Wrist Raise Display: Double press the up button to enter the menu; at this time, the menu flashes to display "00". Press any button to make the menu display "01".

Double press the upper button, and then it displays "10" or "11" .

Press any button to switch; "10" is to turn off the Wrist Raise Display, "11" is to enable Wrist Raise Display.

Brightness Adjustment: Double press the down button to enter the timing interface. Press the up button to change the brightness. Note the default setting is auto brightness powered by ambient light sensor.

Low Battery Reminder: When the battery is lower than 10%, the red light flashes for 1.5 seconds and the tubes are off. It can only be woken up by pressing any key.

A: Yes, you can buy any 20mm wide watchband with a spring rod to replace it. If you want a more personalized combination, you can change it whenever you like to suit your fashion and mood.

Q: Can I wear this watch in the bath?

A: NO, this watch is waterproof for normal daily use. Please DO NOT wear it for bathing, swimming, extreme humidity, sauna. or let it be exposed to rain for a long time. 

Q: Is it normal that the glow tube looks slightly tilted?

Answer: Due to the scarcity of the glow tubes and the slightly poor process accuracy and particle size at that time in history, there are some differences between them during factory assembly and production, so the products may have unique visual differences.

The slightly inclined glow tubes are within the normal error range and are part of the fun of owning a unique piece of history. They are designed to look as good as possible together.

Q: What material is used for the table frame?

Answer: The watch frame is made of metal aluminum oxide and the mirror surface is made of sapphire glass.
